Description
he Engineering Standard: Why This Upgrade?
The factory Porsche M96 and M97 engines (found in 996/997 Carreras and 986/987 Boxster/Caymans) are notorious for bore scoring, cracked cylinders (D-chunking), and ovality. Our aluminum wet liner conversion eliminates these risks by fundamentally re-engineering the block’s architecture.
1. Aerospace-Grade Aluminum Wet Liners
Unlike heavy cast-iron or steel sleeves which can cause overheating and “drop” due to different expansion rates, our liners are machined from high-strength aluminum alloy.
- Thermal Synchronization: The liners expand and contract at the exact same rate as the engine block, ensuring a permanent, leak-free fit.
- Superior Heat Dissipation: As “wet” liners, they sit in direct contact with the engine coolant, pulling heat away from the piston rings far more efficiently than the stock cast-in bores.
2. Genuine Nikasil Plating (Nickel Silicon Carbide)
We return to the “Gold Standard” of Porsche engineering. Used in the legendary air-cooled 911s and the Mezger GT3/Turbo engines, Nikasil is a diamond-hard, low-friction coating.
- End Bore Scoring: Nikasil is virtually immune to the scuffing and smearing that kills Lokasil engines.
- Reduced Internal Friction: Provides a smoother surface for piston rings, resulting in better oil control and a slight increase in naturally aspirated horsepower.
3. Closed-Deck Structural Reinforcement
We convert your block from an “Open-Deck” to a “Closed-Deck” configuration. By adding a precision-machined support deck at the top of the cylinders:
- Zero Bore Flex: The cylinders are locked in place, preventing the “D-chunk” cracks and ovality common in high-mileage or high-stress engines.
- Forced Induction Ready: This added rigidity makes the M96/M97 platform strong enough to reliably handle turbocharging or supercharging.
